Set in quiet, secluded bush setting, although this two storey split level house built in 70s had sound structure, raked ceiling on exposed rafters, the family room did not establish any contact with outdoor surroundings and the main entry to house was not well defined. The entire interior including materials, fixtures and finishes reflected old design style of that period.

The client’s brief was to give a fresh and modern appearance to the house, reconfigure layout for open plan living, refurbish kitchen, baths and entire interior - modern fixtures and finishes and improvements to outdoor spaces. Being in council’s Heritage/Conservation area also identified as Bush Fire Prone area by RFS, NSW meant conforming to their specific conditions and requirements.

The new design highlights include an inviting new entrance porch with forecourt, open plan family/kitchen*/dining-opening out to new timber deck, pergola & refurbished toilets. The double height raked ceiling with skylights provide volume, light and quality space. This renovation demonstrates that how a split level house can be revitalized for improved lifestyle and integrated living by modifying, reconfiguring and use of materials fixtures and finishes.
