Box Hill Project
This garden in Melbourne's Box Hill is a contemporary perennial flowering garden with a traditional manicured look in the front and a more contemporary streamlined style in the rear. The front features a large free flowing lawn and a number of large perennial filled garden beds planted in a naturalistic style.
The existing driveway was removed and turned into a bluestone pedestrian pathway and foyer area, resulting in more logical passageway to the front door. The existing brick garage was demolished and the bricks reused to build the entertaining area and pizza oven. Chunky planks of spotted gum were used for the open pergola.
Softening the hard lines of the entertaining area and pergola are surrounding perennial beds, a Pin Oak tree and Wisteria creeping slowing along the timber beams.
Rectangular steppers placed throughout the lawn in the rear garden contribute to the contemporary style and echo the steppers used in the front garden, helping to create an overall cohesive space.
A sleek rectangular swimming pool with an inbuilt spa is located at the very back of the rear garden and is shaded one one side by a row of established ornamental pear trees.
This garden was designed and constructed by Ian Barker Gardens.
