Byron Bay Hinterland Retreat
This home captures some characteristics of the traditional rural property in its long single story layout but has so many beautiful features that really take it to the next level. The new home already holds a lot of history as it sits on the foundations of the original family home which sadly burnt down in a bushfire.
The owner handcrafted love heart shaped door handles from red cedar for the custom made double entry doors. As you enter the home, some of the amazing view is revealed through the atrium; featuring a corner post made from a Woodlawn railway bridge girder, which is also supporting the backbone of the house.
A curved wall flows from the main entry to the living area, creating good feng shui. The owners fenq shui principles and design flare played a major role in the overall design of the home. In the living area, your attention is drawn to the exposed hardwood rafters, solid sandstone feature wall from Grafton Quarry and the locally sourced 180mm grey iron bark, select grade, T&G flooring.
Large and abundant window openings were locally custom designed to maximise the view and natural lighting. The open free standing bath tub in the master bedroom looks out to the rainforest and brings a sense of tranquillity to the room.
All the tapware throughout the home was re plated with a matte finish and beautiful black forest granite benchtops feature throughout the bathrooms, laundry and kitchen.
The exterior of the home combines split faced sand stone blocks, hardwood timber cladding and the repurposed railway timber was also used in the outdoor shower and support post at the front entrance.
Through close collaboration between the owner & builder throughout the design and building process, the Byron bay hinterland home truly carries the spirit of its owners.
