Darlinghurst Kitchen
ocated in a freestanding Darlinghurst residence, this Dan Kitchens renovation reimagined a tired, inefficient kitchen into a bold and highly functional contemporary space. The middle-aged homeowners were looking for a design that better suited their lifestyle—one with improved storage, more usable bench space, and a layout that worked. The original kitchen had a poor workflow and limited functionality, with a recirculating rangehood and underbench ovens that didn’t meet their needs.
Working closely with the clients and their builder, Dan Kitchens designer Daniel Mazic restructured the layout, relocating the fridge to a more central position. Although the move was initially met with hesitation, it was ultimately embraced after thoughtful discussion. By narrowing nib walls and heightening ceiling cavities, Daniel created a more generous footprint, increasing bench space and drawer storage.
A tower stack of ovens replaced the old underbench configuration for improved ergonomics, while a discreetly ducted rangehood now vents externally, improving air quality. Visually, the kitchen reflects the clients’ personalities—modern, bold, and slightly industrial. Rich green cabinetry, textured concrete-look benchtops, and oak accents come together in a sophisticated palette. The finished result is a practical and character-filled space that brings new life to this inner-city home.
