The fundamentals of the design brief were achieved by creating a large functional open plan home with separate living, kids bedrooms and master zones in three distinctive modern pavilions. A mudroom was also incorporated into the design for ease of cleaning from working in the muddy rural landscape.

Solar passive design principles were applied through the orientation of the home and the placement of the windows which created cross
ventilation. We also integrated shaded structures into the design over all north facing windows to help reduce the direct sunlight from coming into the home in the summer months. The home has been built using traditional timber frame methods and the use of glazing has been minimised on the western facade.

We have captured the essence of a modernist home through the use of negative detailing, low horizontal roofline, exposed concrete features and the use of James Hardie Axon Cladding which blankets the exterior of the building. The use of floor to ceiling windows and the simple cubist shape of the house is very typical of the original 1940’s Modernist homes which have dominated Australia. The home also boasts 360° views, capturing the beautiful rural Australian scenery through viewing galleries throughout the home.
