Joyful House

Joyful House is a fun, friendly and brightly coloured addition to a weatherboard workers cottage on the outskirts of Geelong.

With a tight budget and an ambitious brief, our clients asked us to open up the rear of their house to provide space for their young, energetic family. A new grand room connects the original house to the garden, its dramatically sloping roof introducing light and space to the open plan living areas. A cheeky mezzanine study peaks out over the top, making efficient use of the generous ceiling height.

Out towards the back garden, a new deck is covered with translucent fibreglass. It’s a great spot for a family barbecue, and the fibreglass makes sure plenty of light finds its way into the living room.
