Massadon Homestead Wagga NSW

2017 National Trust Continuing Tradition award highly commended.
Our client requested the romance of an early settler’s farmhouse on their busy beef and sheep farming operation. Michael Bell Architects demolished the existing house down to floorboard levels, retained the original brick chimney and started again. The ceiling height was raised to 3.2 metres, the roof was given substantial proportion and all the doors and windows are sized, located and detailed to achieve an intuitively robust, 3 dimensional composition. The Porters Oxblood external colour was inspired by the wet, red earth discovered during excavation for the Michael Bligh garden.
