Roof Deck House

In Dec 2016, Sarah and I first visited this client’s home for preliminary measure and site investigation. It was a typical double fronted weatherboard house in Yarraville, which has some gorgeous art deco ceiling rose, which we retained. Almost two years on, we saw the fruit of collaboration between designers, builder and client. The extension flow seamlessly from the front door to the kitchen into a new living space that connects the backyard with the existing kitchen and dining. The new family room also connects the children 's new bedrooms where round windows, clerestory windows and small nook higher up makes it fun and interesting. Whilst the original part of the house do not have the thermally massive polished concrete floor and internal brick walls of the new extension, it has been tightly insulated in roof, walls, and subfloor (where our carpentry team went beyond where ordinary contractors would go!). The additional bathroom will alleviate the morning congestion, and the new laundry has its cathedral indoor drying rack and clerestory window to allow light in as well encourage the heat to exit in summer. Don’t you love multi-purpose building features!
We hope our 2 year relationship does not end here, wishing the happy clients and family a fantastic time celebrating NYE fireworks from the viewing roof deck.
