Ulysses House

Ideal aspect

Located in a new suburb, this large block with a long side boundary to the north provided the opportunity for perfect orientation. As the clients had hoped, all bedrooms and living areas make the most of this aspect and are filled with winter sun, helping the house to achieve its 8.5 EER.

One low window positioned at seating height looks to the west to capture the striking view to Mt Stromlo, while the study, kitchen and utility areas face south.

Materials are simple and hard-wearing: the façade of recycled Canberra red bricks references the character of the city’s older homes; the concrete slab provides under-floor heating; and plywood and recycled timber joinery adds warmth to a crisp interior palette.
