This condo bathroom was remodeled to a luxurious Universal Design master bathroom to provide them accessibility and ease of use as they age in place.
The original bathroom was poorly laid out and needed complete reconfiguration to be accessible and ADA compliant. We removed the dividing walls, existing water closet, shower, and a built-in soaking tub that was no longer being used. Although the square footage remained the same, the new layout allowed the room to be entirely open, with space and clearance for a wheelchair.

The bathroom now includes a curbless shower, with slip resistant tile, and is wide enough for a care giver to assist. A wall mounted fold down teak bench is ADA compliant and able to support up to 500 lbs. Plywood blocking was installed behind the dramatic slab shower walls for future grab bars. A solid surface for the shower walls is bookmatched, creating a unique design element.
The homeowner, who is an avid woodworking hobbyist, created the custom-built teak vanity, and the open cabinet shelving. An outstanding feature of the vanity is the removable shelf under the sink, providing future walker or wheelchair access.

The rich teak vanity, combined with the dramatic natural stones give the bathroom a clean timeless look.
