Originally from South Africa, the owners of this home wanted an African inspired theme to the decor of their open plan living and dining room.

To achieve this look an earthy palette and furniture made from natural materials were selected. The dining table is large to accommodate guests for entertaining which the family like to do. It was custom made with a parquet finish and is complemented by soft tan coloured leather dining chairs. Elements of wood are evident in the selections for the buffet, coffee table and accent pieces. Traditional bamileke side tables were selected as feature pieces and are particularly unique as they are carved from a single piece of tree trunk. Personal accessories that feature indigenous animals were an elegant way to pay tribute to Africa’s amazing artisans.

What is key to the success of this space is practising restraint. A balance of accessories, minimal clutter, subtle use of pattern and neutral tones helps to create a room that feels spacious and calming.
