The site is a steep north westerly facing waterfront falling 33 over 66 metres to Willoughby Bay. A beautiful stand of angophoras at the bottom of the site provides a focus for the house alongside the water views. The requirements were complex including a lift, carlift, elevated swimming pool, inclinator and conversion of a large existing swimming pool into an underground watertank. The house is built hard to the street boundary and is arranged around a central circulation zone which steps down 5 levels to follow the topography of the site. The route to the ground is punctuated by framed views outwards to the angophoras and bay, and inwards to two internal courtyards which provide light, ventilation and interest through numerous sculptures. The elevated swimming pool aligns with the central circulation axis and cantilevers out towards the bay and trees. The two glass ends of the pool enable views through the water.
