Chatswood, NSW
This family of 6 had outgrown their Chatswood cottage and were in serious need of additional living spaces, and more importantly Mum needed a new kitchen with all the bells and whistles. The long entry hallway leads down to the new light filled large open plan kitchen, living and dining areas, extra bedroom, bathroom, laundry and teenage retreat. What once was a garage built in the early 1920s is now a large relaxed space for the teenage members of the family. The addition is connected to the old garage, the interior of which was completely gutted to take a wall of bifold glass doors, vaulted ceiling, blackbutt flooring and custom built joinery with banquette seating. Bifold doors were selected for the dining/family and teenage spaces making it possible for the entire rooms to be opened up to the large deck and to the views of the neighbouring parkland. Neutral finishes consisting of concrete, blackbutt, white stone and timber veneer were selected for their warmth, functionality and elegance. Family inherited 60s furniture has been given a new lease of life using mid century inspired contemporary fabrics. Our clients love living in the home that we've created for them. The teenagers love their space; mum can now indulge in her passion for cooking in her gourmet kitchen; and dad has lots of storage for his surfboards, motorbikes and equipment.
