Coastal Contemporary - New Home
Situated in Mackay’s elite harbour enclave, this meticulously custom design by local architectural firm, Bold Architecture.
The key aspects of the residence’s overall design was permeability, view, natural light, the ability for the homeowner’s to enjoy outdoor living throughout the seasons and provide practical multi-generation living.
Great consideration was given to the siting of the home, with the primary aim of the design to provide views of the beach to most areas of the home, rather than just the rooms on the eastern edge. With a clever open plan design, well placed void and open stairs the view of the beach and surf beyond, is enjoyed from almost all areas of the home.
A commanding void over the main living space of the house enables connectivity from almost all areas of the home. Even the most western room of the house has water view, and other living spaces via this void, visually connecting the entire length of the home.
A deepened northern setback to the front elevation of the house allowed for large apertures along the northern edge capturing the northern natural light without compromising privacy from the neighbouring homes. Additional privacy was gained through strategic landscaping which also softened the concrete surfaces.
Tropical outdoor living was achieved on a grand scale. Firstly, with a strategically placed two storey courtyard located deep into the house along the northern side. This courtyard provides a sheltered living space from the persistent south-easterly winds, and similarly provides a private living space from the public on the beachfront. Secondly it’s centrality within the home has created a dominant focal point, and many rooms overlook or look through, further strengthening the permeability and connectivity of the home.
