Dee Why Beach
This is one of my older projects where I was responsible for the entire vision. Paul & Kerrie wanted a uniquely surf-beach inspired home that was all about comfort and practicability. As one descends from the spiral staircase the tunnel shape living room felt awkward. This inspired me to curve the end of the room with joinery to meet the equally curved bi-folding glass doors. I wanted the room to be simple making sure the view was the hero. I designed a rotating platform powered by skateboard wheels & inset it into the concrete slab and covered it with a large area rug to enable the sofa to easily move into any position. To break away from the tunnelling effect even further, I added a waterfall to the dining area which pushes out from the envelope of the room. When turned on, the water cascades down a mirrored surface with the duel effect of reflecting the stunning tropical fish tank opposite when turned off. The curved theme was worked continuously throughout the home in the kitchen, internal staircase and bathrooms. My custom designed timber dining table and matching occasional table found at the base of the stairs, along with the timber shutters that frame the dining area, are just some of the special elements I was able to envision and see to fruition.
