I call this my California experiment. Since moving to Los Angeles from Sydney in 2014, I have fallen deeply for the earthiness, history and golden light of California. So different from the crisp white light in Australia. I had to adjust my design instincts and sensibility to marry with my new surroundings. Naturally, I experimented with what this looked and felt like in our home. This is the vision that unfolded. Lots of vintage finds, natural materials and textures, with my favorite feature being the beautiful stone fireplace I created in our downstairs condo, before we moved up to the penthouse in the same block. In our new penthouse, I did a simple and affordable remodel of the kitchen and powder room, keeping the existing cabinetry and painting it white. I also turned it into a 3 bed by converting the top (once open) mezzanine into an office and third bedroom.
