Spruson Street Neutral Bay

This 1920's arts & crafts home was sympathetically remodel and decorated in an eclectic yet vintage style using a budget conscious approach to deliver a passionately expressed home true to the owners & their needs. Original plans included increasing the floor plan in the back part of the home by adding a number of bay windows to bring into view the swimming pool. Due to budget constraints, this plan was soon shelved as ‘stage two’ making way for a more challenging ‘stage one’ with its specific objective to create a ‘whole’ home with what was available. This concept of ‘wholeness’ is the crux to a design philosophy designer, Bronwyn Poole, describes as Space Healing; creating an authentic home that feels as good as it looks, perfectly in harmony with the owner, their resources and their house. The first undertaking was to open up the entry vestibule with symmetrical lead light arches and improved the flow to the back end of the home by enlarging the small hallway. Over 5 different wallpapers were used to improve the flow and connection between each space moving the occupant from the original part of the home to the 1980’s back end addition. Bronwyn placed a lot of emphasis on keeping the original part of the home more traditional whilst allowing the back part of the home to come to life in a totally different yet sympathetic way. Colour, pattern and texture was used to evoke a fun, lively space for this young family of five to enjoy. A soft metallic silver paint was applied to the existing kitchen cupboards to give them a new lease on life. Furnishings and accessories were layered to blend the 1980's terracotta flooring whilst white cotton lace drapes were used to create a poolside oasis. This home is truly a happy home, best described by the owners as “alive, intriguing, soothing”, truly ‘healed’ leaving the owners free of desire to peruse stage two.
