Nature - Play - Imagine
The aim for Woden Valley Child Care Centre play spaces was to produce an aesthetically pleasing, safe, flexible, and functional outdoor play spaces which took into consideration environmentally sustainable material choices whilst complementing the child’s emotional, physical, social, and cognitive well-being.
The outcome for this design encourages physical activity, social interaction, creativity, and problem solving based on each play spaces age group capabilities. The play spaces consisted of Nursery, Toddler and Junior.
Elements which contribute to the success of this design include:
- Encouraging active play.
- Encouraging social interaction, resulting in increased social skills.
- Supports cognitive development through creativity and problem solving.
- Nature play is encouraged through nature play components.
- Supports risk and challenge in a safe and hazard free environment.
- Supports open space for active play.
- Pleasing aesthetics.
- Supports staged construction.
