Gold Coast Residence
The Gold Coast Residence is a majestic home, approached from below on the long and winding 1 kilometer driveway. As the two outer single storey pavilions and the three inner double storey pavilions splay outward to encompass the full view, the home appears at it's maximum and imposing width. As one rounds the final bend in the drive and approaches the main entrance, the home transforms to a more intimate single storey with a warm and welcoming organic shaped courtyard. As the five pavilions are now directed inwards, the overall scale of the house is reduced in perception. It's a simple device that makes the visitor feel more welcome.
Once inside, each pavilion focuses on a slightly different angle of view, with long distance views as far as South Stradbroke Island and the Coral Sea. The master bedroom pavilion is the first in line positioned neatly on a flat bench. A small, but exquisite en-suite bathroom also has views whilst relaxing in the bath.
The next pavilion in line is the main living room with fireplace. Between this and the kitchen / dining pavilion is the main stair to the lower floor and also an outdoor covered sitting area with its own fireplace to enjoy the colder winter evenings.
A corridor with Gymnasium and laundry opposite leads the way to the third pavilion. Here we find the main office and media room opposite. In the last pavilion, we have the guest bedroom and en-suite with the kids study room to the rear.
The home is an example of the master craftsmanship and use of natural materials that Chris Vandyke Designs exemplify. The use of Travertine marble floor and stair tread slabs completes the picture of a home that will age gracefully.
