Off Grid Project

The use of sustainably sourced timber was a requirement of the project and the overall design of the buildings were based on constructing organic curved walls so they would mesh back into the natural landscape.
The use of nature stone tiles, pigmented waxed concrete, timber and low maintenance powder coated windows all work together in a natural colour palate to the surrounding landscape.
Each of the four dwellings has a solar/ gas boosted hot water system and the entire site is serviced by an off grid power supply consisting of photovoltaic panels, batteries and a gas powered generator.
Due to the layout of the various buildings around the site, a central shed was constructed to contain the power plant and solar array and reduce the amount of power loss through the wiring.
Low energy lighting and fans were installed throughout the precinct.
Water is pumped into a 50Klt of gravity feed storage tanks from an open agricultural channel some 1.5km away, the water is carefully filtered and treated to drinking quality.
Due to the possible threat of passing bushfires each building is separately serviced by its own 50mm pressurized water line from where it can be dowsed in water by way of a high level sprinkler system.
Low flammability vegetation has been retained onsite whilst higher combustible species have been removed prior to construction to further reduce the risk of fire.
In the main living building the deck space is serviced by a water misting line to provide a natural cooling effect to the home.
The home is serviced by an Advanced Environmental Septic system from where each of the buildings are interconnected to.
