B.E. Architecture Byron Bay

Mermaid Residence, Gold Coast

Mermaid Residence, Gold Coast

Concrete has long been historically linked to modernist architecture, and the ideals of permanence and solidity. Our first commission on Hedges Avenue involved two clients who were drawn to the concept of a building that could withstand the local weather conditions while maintaining a timeless aesthetic.

The design takes inspiration from South American and Spanish architectural traditions, both of which have a history long embracing concrete in residential designs. The completed house is centred around a courtyard layout, featuring a series of internal walled gardens that allow the home to turn its back on the busy thoroughfare at the front.
