The entertainer!
The original design of the kitchen had two entry and exit points which essentially allowed the kitchen to be used as a cut through from dining to lounge. This meant that whoever was cooking would constantly have though traffic! This had to change. One exit point was cut off but a large open slot was put into this entrance so that a visual connection could be maintained with guests. Nothing was lost through this but a lot was gained for the chef of the house. Seating was placed on the outside edge of the kitchen along with the wine fridge and wine storage. This way, when guests arrive, they are kept on the perimeter of the kitchen rather than coming into the preparation areas.
LED strip lighting was used on the internal part of the kitchen to create mood lighting. LED cabinet lights in LED were also used for task and mood lighting. With its minimal size, long low cost life and easy installation, it was the only choice.
The only real issue in this kitchen was the chimney and how to treat it. The head height was raised but the chimney breast projected far enough forward that cabinet depths were compromised at certain points. In the end the bench was run across the front so that the chimney appears to be built into the cabinets. The cabinets directly on the breast are shallow which is handy for spice storage and other cooking condiments.
The final effect of the kitchen is beautiful in a very relaxed way. The cabinet colour so reminiscent of the earth sets the bench top off to full advantage. This is a true entertainer’s kitchen.
