Full conversion of an existing narrow backyard into a multifunctional space mainly for the kids to play in and explore plus the inclusion of a small seating area for the family (parents mainly) to enjoy the outdoors whilst watching the children play. Some edible planting with the retention of existing fruit trees but largely a native planting palette! The project was commissioned as the children were not able to enjoy the garden at all during COVID as the current deck was at a higher level and resulted in making the garden spaces smaller and difficult for the kids to freely run around and play in. The design strategy was also two fold - to achieve the above brief whilst also catering for the family's needs to sell the house in a couple of years and not to over customise it so that it appealed to a broader market and especially to other families with young children. The house is close to a good school so buyers would likely fall in the abovementioned category!
