When we first walked in, there was a large metal dog crate sitting in the middle of the kitchen. It worked. But it took up real estate, disrupted the space visually, and made the room feel like it was accommodating life rather than supporting it.

The crate is still there. It's just built into the cabinetry now — custom cabinet, finished to match everything around it, topped with quartz. The dogs have their spot. The kitchen has its flow back.

That's one detail in a much bigger project. The footprint was expanded to make room for a 48-inch professional range, a built-in refrigerator, and a large central island that anchors the room. A former laundry area off the kitchen became a walk-in pantry with sliding barn doors, bold wallpaper, and a blue accent color — separated from the kitchen by a short hallway and pocket door so it stays accessible without bleeding into the main space. A television integrated into the rear wall because this family spends real time in the kitchen and designed it accordingly.

Soft gray cabinetry, quartzite countertops, under-cabinet lighting. A kitchen that finally matches the way this family actually lives.
