Milton Kitchen - Design & Build In A Small Space
Chocolate and coffee
This kitchen includes special features to indulge a love of chocolate making.
The island in this Queensland kitchen is a little different to the run-of-the-mill island benches.
When drawing up the wish list for the new kitchen my client asked for a special feature to treat her sweet passion, ‘making chocolate’
That feature is a marble-topped island bench that is 40mm. thick through is entire length to help maintain consistent heating and cooling temperature. This enables chocolate to be prepared and worked with easily and allows the owners to produce the most deliciously mouth-watering results. A modified wine fridge is also incorporated to store finished chocolates.
This kitchen is actually dual purpose- it serves as a psychology practice- and while the available area is not spacious, clever design and carefully selected fixtures and fittings create an illusion of greater space and maximise every available square inch.
Integrated appliances, a narrow pantry with full extension draws and a design that
allows for the use of bigger, deeper cabinets provide extra storage without the kitchen appearing overwhelmed by cabinetry and appliance.
A stainless- steel bench with an integrated deep sink, a large fridge, cooktop, oven, separate microwave and dishwasher help meet the day-to-day demands placed on this busy kitchen. A well equipped coffee cabinet was a must but need to remain in keeping with the reproduction 1940’s terrace building.
The feature Bianco Gioa marble splashback leads the eye upwards, creating an illusion of space, and it also makes a luxurious impact as people enter the kitchen from the rear of the building. The black-and-white marble floor tiles also add some eye-catching style to this highly functional area.
