Practicality & Pleasure To A Disability - Laundry Design & Fitout

GIVING PRACTICALITY AND PLEASURE TO A DISABILITY

The laundry was part of a total home renovation. The brief was to assist the user to perform tasks with less effort after suffering a stroke.

In planning the laundry consideration was to be given to ease of movement within the room, heights and durability of materials. A ‘Laminex board was selected for the fit out. A V-Zug washing machine and dryer were raised off the floor, and between these a cupboard was installed. These all sat on a stainless steel benchtop under which were three deep storage draws.

A laundry chute was positioned at the top of the cupboard and below was a draw where a laundry basket sat. This draw was full extension so using only one hand, soiled clothes could be transferred to the washing machine . A tambour door was selected for this cupboard for easy opening.

On the opposite wall there was a marble bench with a porcelain laundry tub and beyond this the storage cupboard. The back wall of this bench area backed on to the powder room so a ‘Digi Glass” panel was installed as a splashback. A photograph of the ocean was selected by the client. The use of the glass panel added colour to both the laundry and the powder room.

A digitally printed full glass sliding door made the entry to this room stunning.

Our client has stated how much easier the chore is for him now, but also what a pleasure it is to be in this room.
