Practicality & Pleasure To A Disability - Indooroopilly Kitchen Design & Build

FACING A CHALLENGE AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

After initial consultation with our client and listening to the everyday challenges he faced in the kitchen due to suffering from a stroke we were able to define a list of requirements suitable to his needs in relation to everyday tasks including food storage, preparation, cooking and serving for a busy family.

Major problems identified included, controlling spillage, minimizing wear and tear, easy and accessible food storage, transporting food to the different areas of the kitchen and to the table, minimizing breakages and moving freely within the room.

As this was a complete renovation of the whole area we had a lot of freedom to work towards a better outcome for our client.
Our choice of materials included ; a wet edge stainless steel benchtop to all sides of the kitchen with intergrated sink, brushed stainless steel fronts to draws and cupboards, a mobile stainless steel food trolley, Blum sink draw, Blum Intivo open draw pantry, a large breakfast cabinet with a tambour door, and the floor choice was cork backed vinyl to help minimize breakages.

There was an integrated fridge and freezer, and these were positioned at each end of the U-shaped kitchen as this allowed the trolley to move in front of either to transfer items to where needed. On the left wall an oven tower held the VZug oven and microwave.

The window side of the kitchen incorporates the sink, rubbish bin ,induction cooktop, Fisher&Paykel large dishwasher draw and banks of Blum draws. We found the dishwasher draw to be the best functional alternative for the type of disability our client faced.
