Sorrento Gold Coast Design & Construct New Kitchen

A passion for cooking,

This entire home was taken back to the frame and remodeled. Stage one, which included the kitchen was to create a new open-plan living area. Designing this kitchen I needed to come up with a kitchen design worthy of the renovated home and one which also allowed for the important tasks of cooking and entertaining.

My clients brief was for a kitchen that would allow for his passion of Thai cooking. A large 900mm free-standing stove had already been purchased by my client so this was incorporated into the design along with storage, and lots of it.

The centre piece is the 3 metre long island bench of ‘Riverwhite’ granite,300mm thick with waterfall ends. All storage under this bench is in large Blum servo-drive draws.

Space was not an issue in designing, but the success of this design was in the choice of an L-shaped layout. This allowed for freedom of movement and created a dynamic work space. Coupled with colours that worked together with the design, the choice of appliances and the positioning of these makes this kitchen work.

Within this L-shape there are mostly drawers and all areas were created for specific needs. Next to the cooktop is the bottle/spice drawer and a 2 x 20 litre rubbish bin in the preparation zone. This area was also fitted with
Blum ‘servo-drive to help with ease of access when cooking. The stone tops were pre-selected by my client.

A bar area positioned at the end of the back bench, fitted with an echelon wine rack and bar fridge, softens the break between the kitchen area and dining. 25 mm flat aluminium doors with clear glass inserts complete this area.

Overhead cupboards feature adventos twin doors with separate tip-on cabinets above. The reason for this separation was that items stored could not be viewed when lower overheads were open. Adventos doors enclose the rangehood and extend equally either side to complete the return and give uniformity.

This design has a sleek modern look with no part dominating. The fridge was lifted 150mm to help incorporate it into the lines of the kitchen and an optional mounting kit creates an integrated look.

All cabinetry features a two-pak finish in half snowy white with a metallic pearl finish and the overheads in a silver grey and pearl finish. This colour matched the aluminium framing throughout the home and around the window below the overheads. A neutral coloured glass splashback creates a bright, clean, airy feel.
