What was once an exposed and underutilised rooftop has been transformed into a luxurious outdoor retreat designed for entertaining, relaxing, and making the most of Brisbane’s incredible city views.

Located within a penthouse apartment in West End, the existing rooftop space lacked protection from the weather, limiting how often it could be used. The area felt outdated and disconnected from the lifestyle the clients wanted for their home.

Orterra worked closely with the clients from concept design through to detailed documentation and construction support to completely reimagine the rooftop as a functional extension of the apartment. A key part of the project involved navigating the planning approval process for the new pergola structure, ensuring the design met approval requirements while still delivering a refined and high end outcome.

The completed rooftop now features a custom louvre pergola that provides flexible shade and weather protection, allowing the space to be comfortably used throughout the year. Raised planters introduce lush greenery and softness to the rooftop environment, while carefully integrated lighting enhances the atmosphere and usability well into the evening.

A fully equipped outdoor kitchen creates the perfect setting for entertaining, transforming the rooftop into a destination for gatherings, quiet evenings, and everyday living.
