A steep front to back upwards slope created an opportunity to think outside the square with this design. The concept involved a tiered yard including an extended alfresco and outdoor kitchen below with an infinity edge pool linking to the upper sundeck area. The infinity wall was clad with stone to provide a beautiful feature from inside the house whilst also doubling as a compliant pool barrier. As the block was an irregular shape the pool was designed as a ‘wedge’ so that the long lines were parallel with the house and boundary respectively, embracing the angles rather than trying to hide them.

A row of bamboo would be planted at the rear to gain some relatively quick screening while not taking up too much width. Water constantly trickles over the stone facing tranquilly into the balance tank gutter concealed below bluestone ballast. Cleverly hidden behind the wing wall at the end of the pool is the gate and steps leading to the upper deck.
The upper deck provides a generous space for poolside relaxation. At one end of the deck is an outdoor shower mounted on a timber screen. At the other end of the deck is a generous sun pavilion to provide an escape from the sun in extreme weather.
The materials chosen for this project were typically natural and complimentary to each other with timber decking, bluestone and granite featuring prominently. The rich blue pool tiles assist in making the pool pop out and be the focus. The pool has ‘best in class’ features including fully tiling, infloor cleaning, automatic salt water management and solar/gas heating.
