Country House

A contemporary country estate deriving from the Australian farmhouse vernacular. The estate includes the main house, guest pavilion, games room pavilion, indoor swimming ppol, tennis court, horse stables, and horse facilities, as well as sheds for the farming machinery.

The house is a series of pavilions with enclosed verandas acting as the link. The pavilions are set around courtyards that create sheltered areas and break down the size of the house. The house sprawls over 1600m2 and takes advantage of the magnificent views across the escarpment.

Using bagged brickwork for external walls and interior walls along the internal veranda; timber detailing for floors, windows, walls, ceilings and eaves; stone for walls and floors; and metal deck roofing.

The house is positioned for solar efficiency and natural cross ventilation. Other environmental sustainable design features include low-e glazing, hydronic underfloor heating, two 150,000l rainwater tanks, reuse of sewerage for irrigation.
