Kitchen and outdoor space renovation - full project management of the build
The old kitchen was dysfunctional and too small for the needs of the owners so it was decided to renovate and extend the space to make better use of the room. This was no simple facelift operation but a complicated reconfiguration of the entire kitchen and adjoining outdoor space.
John Spiteri from Brindabella was brought in to project manage and oversee the construction of the new kitchen. The work involved moving a number of internal walls to enlarge the space and make the opening to the kitchen larger and more easily accessible. Major plumbing and electrical positions were moved which needed careful planning and execution.
A new beam was constructed and fitted into the ceiling to turn the old cavity sliding door into a wide 2-metre entryway while brand new bi-fold doors at the rear of the kitchen open out to the sunny back deck.
The island bench is in solid teak which contrasts beautifully with the crisp white cabinetry and timber veneer. Floating shelves in matching teak presented a construction challenge because of their weight. The team at Brindaella introduced reinforcing to the walls and designed a dowel system to ensure the stability of the shelves once installed.
This was a project that was so much more than simply installing new cabinetry – it required a builder who could provide the full service of project management, construction and installation. And the end result is a sight to behold and, from the owners perspective, well worth the additional effort to get it right first time.
