Traditional Kitchen - Kalorama, Northwest DC/The Dresden Building
What do you do when you want to remove a wall in a 100+ year old building? Call Zelaya Properties of course. =)
The client wanted to open the wall between the kitchen and living room to give a more open feeling and add an island. But her building, The Dresden in the historic neighborhood of Kalorama, was built in 1910 and it wasn't clear if the wall to be removed was load bearing or not. In working with our structural engineer as well as the building's management we determined we were safe to proceed.
After removing the wall, we added an island that closely matched the existing cabinet style. Then they were painted. We replaced the old counter tops with carrara marble. And added a subway tile back splash. Special consideration was made to work with the existing beautiful wood flooring.
