Greg & Lilian, Thames Ditton House Refurbishment

Greg, Lilian and their family have been in their detached new build home for approximately 5 years. The large, Georgian fronted property, overlooked Thames Ditton green and the site was developed on the previous location of the Milk Marketing board. The ground floor featured a relatively small kitchen, separate dining room and over-sized double doors which restricted the flow of the ground floor.

We worked very closely with our clients to develop the internal layout of their ground floor. The extension works included a pitched roof rear extension, off the back of their garage, which ties in with the existing property externally. This space provides a large utility room, a sun room, W.C, as well as a second entrance and boot room area.

The whole of the ground floor has underfloor heating, with stone and timber effect porcelain tiles. Tiles conduct heat better than timber flooring and the finish is very durable. The ornate plaster-work staircase and internal doors were replaced with contemporary shadow gap detail, which included multi-coloured LED strip lights, hidden within the plasterboard space. The staircase was refurbished to be clad in a dark timber and the curved decorative banister was replaced with sleek glass. Bespoke internal doors include fire rated glass and we added pocket doors between the living room and rear dining space, allowing freer use of the walls either side of the opening.

The glazing to the rear elevation is all contemporary, double glazed with dark grey aluminium frames. The central seating area includes a large picture window which looks out to the garden.

The bespoke kitchen was created by a Dutch company whom the clients had worked with before. We worked closely with him and the builders, to create dropped ceiling and built out stud walls to frame the kitchen. In addition, we designed a recessed ceiling light feature above the island, again finished with LED feature lighting.

Greg and Lilian are proud of their home transformation and are keen to commence their next two projects; reconfiguration of the loft floor and a whole garden renovation.
