The owners previously had a small glass conservatory added to their kitchen/living room to replace the main window in that area. This atrium was supported by 2 very slender and flimsy-looking columns. It felt more like a glassed in balcony, as well as adding to the heating and cooling loads. The living room still felt cramped and unfinished, so they decided to demolish the atrium and instead extend the whole living area, virtually doubling it in size.
