Daniel Lindahl Architecture

We worked with Daniel to finalise the design and planning for renovation of our Battery Point home. Testimony to Daniel's capability and diligence is that he was the third architect we used on this project, having been through a long and unproductive process, Daniel was quickly able to distil the remaining planning issues to be resolved. He was able to effectively manage the engagement with Hobart City Council planers and heritage to get DA approval in accordance with what we wanted. Daniel is not only extremely capable in terms of design but is equally at home with client engagement. We were most impressed with Daniel's in-depth knowledge of the planning and development processes and his ability to navigate these issues with sensitivity and effectiveness with Council and other approving bodies. It was a real pleasure to have worked with Daniel on our project and we recommend him without the slightest reservation.

Daniel was suggested to us by our builder to convert and extend our double garage into a one bedroom unit. From the outset Daniel was knowledgeable and patient as he helped us navigate a design that would suit our needs, taste and ... budget! Building can be stressful, and we did not know too much about the various options and costs for building materials and finishes, not too mention the many building and council requirements. Having Daniel's expert and calm advice was integral to getting a great outcome. The 3D modelling was also very useful in helping us visualize the project, and once work was underway Daniel was always obliging and prompt in addressing any issues or questions that came up. Highly recommended.

Daniel was a delight to work with throughout the process. He provided great guidance through the development of the new layout of modern kitchen in what was an awkward space. The 3D model helped us see the big picture and his eye for detail meant that the is fully utilised and aesthetically pleasing.

On first meeting Daniel one gets the feeling of someone who is genuine, caring and honest. We sat down with him and went over the ideas we had for the work that we wanted Daniel’s assistance in. Initially this work involved the design of a studio on our property. Daniel came up with clear and concise drawings of the studio and at the same time incorporated the existing house design into the new concept. Daniel’s attention to detail and his overall understanding of the varied elements involved in construction enabled us to feel confident with his design for the studio and bringing it into the overall plans for our property. Unfortunately we had to cancel the studio project due to our family situation. But Daniel was able to assist a modified version of our project with a roof over our deck and driveway design. This work also involved the submission of plans to council which Daniel did on our behalf. This included engineers design and plumbing works associated with the project. Daniel was great at mediating between council requirements and their planning department and our project through the various stages. Daniel was simply a delight to have as our architect for our home renovations. He is kind, patient and generous with his time. It was our first renovation experience and we didn’t always have a clear idea of what we wanted. Daniel took the time to explain things to us and also propose multiple options whenever we were unsure of a part of the design. It was clear to us that Daniel always has his clients’ interests at heart. His design not only met the brief (and beautifully so), but it also addressed pain points that we didn’t even realise we had. For example, Daniel noticed we had three mismatching bookcases overflowing with books in a corner of our existing house, and proposed a home library in the design. I engaged Daniel in 2022 to design a complete overhaul of my 1950s house on Hobart's eastern shore. He delivered an elegant and energy-efficient design that met my design brief in full, including the very tight budget, and worked with the builder to find ways to improve it further, such as through adding a raked ceiling/void in the living area. He has a great eye for detail and the builders have noted their appreciation of the detailed architectural plans he provided. I enjoyed working with Daniel and would recommend him to others seeking to get the most out of their living spaces through space-and energy-efficient design. Daniel designed our deck and attached sun room. The design process and the design itself were both great, he made multiple site visits both before, during and after. We're super happy with the process and the outcome, it's been a real change to our lifestyle and we couldn't be happier!

Daniel is a highly experienced architect and a talented house designer. Daniel designed 2 large townhouses in Rosny/Tasmania for me and did an excellent job. His design took full advantage of the site orientation, slope, and dimensions to produce a very balanced outcome, resulting in great floor plan, natural light, and views. The completed project exceeded my expectations. I found Daniel very responsive, easy to work with, and highly professional. He collaborated with other parties (engineer, building surveyor, council) in a very friendly and professional manner to get the job done. Daniel has worked on two of our development projects. He networked extremely well with the other professions involved and also negotiated successfully with the local council ensuring the project was approved in a timely fashion. His organisational, communication and problem solving skills are commendable. Also of note was Daniel's ability to work at times with us remotely, his responses were always prompt and complete.

Daniel designed a residential property for me. A new build in a character area in Brisbane with lots of planning constraints and on a small lot. I had tried a couple of architects prior to Daniel for sketch design but was not satisfied and I think the reason Daniel and I could work together was because he is very practical in his approach to design and is very aware and knowledgable about the actual process of building. He incorporated my ideas into an elegant design that I and many others admire and was always prompt and professional in his dealings with me and other parties on the project.

Daniel Lindahl designed two houses for my wife and I. The first house was a beautiful multi-level home that provided a great solution to a difficult sloping block of land. When our family grew, our needs changed, so we decided to build again. Daniel Lindahl Architecture was the obvious choice as we had been very satisfied with the whole process (from design to project management) with our first home. both designs were unique but practical and more than met our needs. Friends and visitors frequently commented on the great design solutions they saw in these homes.

Daniel designed an incredible renovation for us of an old Queenslander. He started with a shell and ended up with two building awards. We couldn't have been happier with his insights and the sympathetic remodelling of a house that is over one hundred years old. We have lived in this house for many years now and still love it. It can accomodate for huge parties and intimate gatherings.

We are very grateful to Daniel Lindahl who came to our aid when our project of building 10 units at Indooroopilly needed help. We had mocked up the bones of the idea but function and aesthetics were needed. The brief to the builder was . NO cost blow-out ie no Sydney Opera House . Above "basic" so as to compete in a glut rental market . Low maintenance and maximum productivity . Easy on the eye. Without hubris, high-handedness or hype Daniel made the building function and be aesthetic. For example he made the Entry, Stairwell and parking work in spite of very tight available space. His fees were modest and he put effort into the detail. He fitted well with the builders ( on whose recommendation he highly came ) and engineers. I wish I had another project to commission him. Daniel Lindahl has provided design and documentation services for me on a number of projects, most recently a block of 10 Apartments in Toowong. Our client was delighted with both the appearance and function of the finished building and I understand that he has engaged Daniel for another project at the present time. I have found Daniel's designs to be both innovative and buildable. He has provided advice to me on many occasions and his knowledge of building is broad and practical.

I have known Daniel Lindahl and his work for many years. Over 20 years ago he designed the addition of a circular deck to a Queenslander I owned in Brisbane. The design was truly innovative including the transformation of an old stove compartment into a BBQ area. This not only looked amazing but provided protection for the BBQ & an excellent cooking area. More recently he designed a total renovation of an Art Deco apartment I have purchased in New York City. I couldn't be happier with the design which opens up the old cluttered layout into a fresh new open design.
