The owner of this small 96m² 2-bedroom split-level cottage had problems with the old dysfunctional plan as well as heating and cooling. She also needed a larger deck and better car accommodation. 15% of the floor area was also lost to circulation space so it all felt cramped. Simply adding a small (6m²) extension and reorganising the spaces allowed us to turn this into a 3-bedroom home with a large open plan living/dining/kitchen area and high skylit raked ceiling. In this process the walls and roof were insulated and widows replaced with double-glazing to bring it up to current energy efficient standards. The small deck was extended for better entertaining and a carport was also incorporated in the entry design.
