Lyrebird in bushland

Winner of BDAA National Design Awards 2020

Our clients brief was to transform their home into a large but comfortable home for themselves with the space to showcase their unique collection of furniture, rugs and artworks while opening up to the surrounding bushland and to bring light and ventilation into the home. By repurposing the existing rooms and extending into the original family and dining, we created a large open plan Living/dining/Kitchen all while maximizing the bushland views, solar access and sustainable principles, all of which fell in a flame zone rated area. This rammed earth extension to a 1970's mud brick home has been one of our most challenging design projects over our 32 years in the industry.
Falling in a flame zone category and conservation zoning we needed to source materials that complement the existing home, meet our client's quite specific requirements while still abiding by FZ requirements. This was quite a fluid design as our client was continuously sourcing amazing new /antique material to complement and enhance the design.
