The Clients were familiar with the designers work and loved the homes she had designed.
So, creating their dream home was destined to be an enjoyable experience.

The total concept – was the order of the day.

The designer assessed the land prior to the clients purchasing it and made recommendations as to what could be achieved.

The design was driven by the differing needs of a family with 2 daughters of 14 and 16 years old, as well as the parents who were after quiet and space – ‘the idea was to keep the girls at home’.

Storage was high on the list of priorities as well as a 4 car Garage, Games, Bar, Music room, Palates room, Study 4 Bedrooms 3 Bathrooms Lift and the rest………. A large family home was about to unfold.

The block is situated virtually on the banks of the swan river in Applecross
It is surrounded with North Facing panoramic views of the Swan River, City, Narrows Bridge and Kings Park. Not Bad!!!

There was one snag; the rear of the block had an ugly embankment on the verge, which dropped dramatically 4 meters from the street creating a trough or ditch all along the road.

So what to do with council land was the big challenge?
The budget was restrictive so lateral thinking was required.
The girls were 14 and 16 at the start and were to be included in the comforts the home would provide….. So, time was not on the designer’s side.

A long journey of careful planning and communicating with the family members as well as negotiating with the council and neighbours was about to begin!

After analysing the block, the designer soon realised that access from both streets would create a lifestyle perfect for the family’s needs.
Advantage was taken of the embankment at the rear of the block by placing the garages on top of each other and by filling in the ditch to bridge the embankment providing access to the upper garage.

The council agreed that the proposal was going to enhance the streetscape and after much negotiation and red tape we were given permission to fill the verge to enable access to the top garage off Tuart Lane.

The issue of privacy had to be addressed as the block has 3 large street frontages.
The requirement for a pool and spa meant that the screen walls were to provide swimming pool isolation security and privacy without obstructing the views.
The pool area is sunken slightly which this gives it an element of privacy, the screen walls are broken up to create interest and the use of colour and different materials also help to break up the extensive amount of fencing required. The landscaping further adds to soften the streetscape and adds privacy to the outdoor areas.

The first floor is accessed directly off Tuart Lane. A bridge provides access to the front door for visitors, whilst the parent’s garage opens directly into the house.
This floor also houses the Master retreat, study and nifty sewing room, completing the lifestyle for the parents all on one level.

The ground floor is dedicated to the girls; it comes complete with double garage which accesses their level, palates room, music room, guest suite with bathroom and guest WC, kitchenette, Laundry and 2 groovy pads for the girls with a large Bathroom and WC and Games room which opens onto an outdoor Terrace, Pool and Spa.

Family togetherness is achieved via a large eat in kitchen which serves the dining and outdoor Terrace and BBQ. The Pool Spa and garden can be accessed from the upstairs Terrace via an external staircase which floats down to the pool area.

As you step into the entry your eye is drawn towards the river through a corridor which leads into the Main living rooms via a glass cavity sliding door.
The subtle warm ambience is evident as you travel through a corridor which leads into the Main living rooms via a glass cavity sliding door.

The subtle warm ambience is evident as you travel through the home where a perfectly balanced use of space and function prevail.

From the exterior of the home stainless anchors, and timber panel sets the theme of style and colour, transcending through to the river front of the home.
This theme is continued into the interiors, creating balance and harmony.

The result is a home reflecting the clients exact needs and own personalised style.
They said that they would not change a thing if they had their chance again!

The client’s expectations have more than been met, they have been surpassed.

…..and the girls are both still living at home!
