RENOVATION: Updated Family Home (C+T Home)
This family of four wanted an updated family home where the outdoor living flowed into their indoor living.
The big challenge on this project was positioning the pool, working within a tight boundary: we decided that the best place for it was the front entrance of the house with privacy created through walls and gates.
As the house was a split level originally, and we wanted to be able to view the pool from the kitchen; we removed some structural walls, lifted the kitchen up a step and opened up the front of the house to create alfresco living along the front and side of the home. To achieve this we took some of the house away extending the deck and re-positioning the kitchen, dinning and living under a high vaulted ceiling.
Another factor we considered in the design was the strong Western setting sun.
To address this we created breezes through the house for ventilation and cross flow. Because the home didn't naturally get breezes, we had to create breezes by open up the sides and positioning windows to create drafts - this meant that you could close the doors and still have drafts creating breezes through the home.
The build stayed within the budget and achieved what the client desired in their family home.
This design had two stages, after completing stage one - they realised they had all they wanted, and stage two remains council approved but not completed.
