Revitalizing Jacqui's Karrinyup Home: A Blend of Modernity and Timeless Charm
A few years ago, Jacqui reached out to us with a vision to breathe new life into her home's interior. Nestled in the picturesque neighborhood of Karrinyup, her residence had solid foundations and an impeccable layout but needed a contemporary twist blended with timeless allure. With a treasure trove of beloved artworks and furnishings, Jacqui wanted to infuse her home with finesse and intrigue.
Interestingly, Jacqui confessed she wasn't particularly fond of change. Despite living in a coastal area, she surprised us by steering clear of a beachy theme and envisioning something entirely different.
Our focus was on transforming the downstairs living and dining areas, as well as the upstairs living space. Although the downstairs area had standard-height ceilings, it felt vast and slightly chilly with its tiled floors—a stark contrast to Jacqui's warm persona.
To introduce warmth and cohesion, we suggested an unexpected choice: black grasscloth wallpaper. Yes, black! Covering two walls, it brought unity and contemporary flair to the space. We added a custom-made modular sofa, perfectly fitting the living area, and softened the room with sheer linen curtains, plush area rugs, inviting cushions, and throws. Captivating artwork added the finishing touch.
Breaking away from conventional norms, we adopted an unconventional approach to artwork placement, injecting dynamism and creativity into the rectangular room. A bold brass coffee table became a focal point, and we finished the living room with beautiful artisan pieces from both Jacqui's collection and our own.
In the dining room, we introduced softness through lighting and plants, reupholstered Jacqui's grandmother's vintage armchairs, and added quirky elements reflecting her personality. While much of the downstairs furniture was newly acquired, we repurposed pieces for the upstairs area. We combined a cozy sofa bed, a statement armchair, and unique one-off finds with Jacqui's existing furniture, enhancing the space with soft furnishings and personality. Voilà!
