George + Powlett Apartments

Located on the corner of George Street and Powlett Street, in the exclusive suburb of East Melbourne, this block of twelve lavish residences redefines modern apartment living.
George + Powlett was designed by Melbourne based architectural firm Powell & Glenn for ICON Developments. Powell & Glenn's aim was to create timeless residences to allow the inhabitants to feel as if they were living in a full-sized house, whilst enjoying the comfort and convenience of apartment living.
The building's robust rendered concrete façade is softened by an abundance of climbing plants and palm trees, resembling an urban oasis. Each apartment opens up to a verandah or courtyard, enhancing the connection between the interiors and the outdoors.
Internally, well-considered floor plans, three-metre heigh ceilings and full-height doors create a sense of openness and space. The interior palette is clean, featuring natural tones and materials. Washed timber floors and crisp white plaster walls and ceilings are combined with black cabinetry to create contrast, offering a contemporary edge. Marble details in the kitchen and bathroom add a touch of luxe to the interior.
Powell & Glenn are known for their ability to harness and incorporate natural light into their designs. Therefore light was an important factor in the design for George + Powlett. Large glass windows fill each apartment with natural daylight, brightening living areas to create light and open spaces. Due to the abundance of natural light, the lighting design was minimal. With a focus on targeted illumination, trimless spotlights, recessed and surface mounted profiles illuminate task areas. The fixtures selected are contemporary in design and are finished in white to complement the interior's clean aesthetic.
The design for George + Powlett reflects a new understated form of luxury. With the use of considered material and colour palettes combined with clever layouts and design details, Powell & Glenn have created the ultimate experience in modern apartment living.
