Prahran House

RKA's ability to respond respectfully to heritage conditions is evident in their design for Prahran House. Transforming an Edwardian boarding house into a contemporary family home, RKA paid homage to the building's original character whilst creating spaces that explore a new typology for open and connected living. The original frontage of the house was restored to contain the bedrooms, whilst the new rear section of the house consists of the open kitchen, living and dining areas.
The end result is a design that clearly differentiates the old and new sections of the home whilst discovering the delicate balance between the individuality, separation and interconnection of spaces.
