Hurren Architects

Heartwood Project

Heartwood was a tiny early settlers cottage and is situated in Stirling, Adeliadie Hills.
The original 2 room cottage consisted of a sitting room with a large fireplace, modest kitchen and one bedroom. Some early renovations saw the addition of wet areas, a studio and the pool.

Hurren Architects brief was to transform this historic cottage into a family home in keeping with the history of the property. The final result is a 3 bedroom, study, living/dining area, sitting room, 2 bathrooms, laundry and upgraded kitchen along with conversion of the studio to a self contained living space.

To make this transformation the cottage was stripped back to its original 2 rooms, new door ways/openings were added to the structure and the remainder of the extension was built around the initial structure.

To celebrate the patina of the property, stone was used as the main building material with most of the interior being unpainted rough render.

In addition to the main family home there is a studio apartment consisting of one bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. A games room is also a great addition to the pool area.
