Before moving into their new home, a small addition was put on the back of the kitchen (see the ceiling transition), the wall between the dining room and kitchen was removed, and a powder room added to the first floor. Frameless UltraCraft cabinets were used and honed CaesarStone counters. They are still deciding on their backsplash tile, but painted it for now.

As you enter from the living room, a two-tiered peninsula separates the dining area from the kitchen. Notice the applied moulding on the back of the peninsula and the tall panel aside the refrigerator. This is a way to give the look of custom wainscoting, but without the price-tag.

The old kitchen had built-ins flanking and under the high dining room window. It was decided to remove them, as they were poorly built. The increased space in the dining room made it all worth while. And with the small addition, there is plenty of storage in the kitchen.

The angled door is the entrance to the new powder room. Discreetly removed from the dining room and angled to maximize passage.

This side entrance is the way the groceries come in. A few steps below the kitchen level, it also is the entrance to the basement. The angled cabinets on the right, along with the angled powder room door, create plenty of passage.

Too small for an angled base cabinet because of wanting to put the double trash here, we just extended the counter (on a slant), so that the wall cabinet above didn't seem too wide. Increasing the depth of the cabinet over the stove provides visual interest to a long stretch of cabinets.

The two-tiered peninsula allows room for outlets. Here, the homeowner has space for their computer, allowing easy access to recipes on-line while cooking. To the left of the refrigerator is the door to the back deck and yard.
