This was one of those wonderful jobs where we moved the location of the kitchen. This space used to be the living room, but the high ceiling and large windows made the space feel too open. So the narrow and long kitchen became the dining room, the living room moved to the old dining room space, and the kitchen is now the showpiece of the home. These photos were taken in the evening at Christmastime.

Taken from the front door entrance, you can see the left doorway in the foreground is now where the living room is and the second doorway on the left is where the dining room now is.

Notice the stainless steel backsplash is full-height behind the stove, but about 4" high everywhere else. This allows the blue wall color to tie the whole room together.

Rather than just using a plain panel alongside the refrigerator, we used a 4-panel wainscot panel.

Glass doors above the sink provide a beautiful focal point. We used bevel glass and shelves with a decorative edge to provide an understated elegance.

The area to the right of the pantry is reserved as a dry-bar. The lighted glass cabinet shows off the stemware and is flanked by six inch wine cubbies.

The double-trash pullout is to the left of the range. Oversizing the hood by six inches provides better capture of cooking fumes. Also, the full-height backsplash behind the stove is six inches wider than the stove, making cleaning of cooking spatter a breeze.

This dry-bar is hiding a pull-out containing the liquor, and a hanging-file drawer, perfect for removing paper clutter.

The angled island provides great conversation between the two "wings." The two-tiered construction provides discreetly placed outlets. The bar refrigerator and microwave are tucked in their spots, convenient, but not ostentatious.

No one sits at kitchen desks, but we still need a spot for the "stuff." Here, a hanging file drawer is hidden in the cabinetry, keeping papers and recipes close by and organized.

Large roll-out shelves in a pantry are the best for organization. The shelves can be adjusted for tall or short items. Nothing can hide in the back when the full-extension shelves are pulled out.

The Kessebohmer double trash pull-out has a soft-close mechanism that pulls the door tight to the cabinet.

The lazy Susan has in-folding doors that automatically close when they come back to the opening. Even when fully-loaded, there are no pinched fingers here!

What is the use of a pretty backsplash when you have outlets all over it? Here you can see the use of plug-mould where you get an outlet every six inches.
