The column and dropped header indicate where the back of the house used to be. The boxed out area above the refrigerator contains mechanicals that could not be moved.

We pulled the center pantry forward slightly to break up the line of three 36" wide pantries. Rather than spending for decorative panels, we used field-applied mouldings on the ends of cabinets and the backs of the island and peninsula.

This peninsula is built against a 42" knee wall. this allows easier placement of outlets and blocks cooking mess from view in the living area beyond.
