Think you answered your own question with the above photo. You can use white with creams and beiges. Don't worry about the aircon unit it will fade into the background once you have decorated.

Could you paint the pine units white to start the journey towards your dream pic? It looks achievable with a fabric draped pelmet (your dream photo used the wall colour which I think is a good idea) over the bed. Then add white linen, white bedsides, white padded bed head too and you're nearly there.

Sorry, I meant to say that I will replace all the furniture, so what's there now will go. Wondering about putting a chair where the tallboy is now and putting a dresser on the wall where the photo is taken from. The bed and bedside will stay in the same position.

Chookchook2 - yep, I am keeping the wallpaper but everything else will be replaced including the bedding and furniture.

I just want to know what people think about timber furniture in the room. I know the photo I included is all neutral, but I wondered about timber to break up the look. I think if I try to replicate that photo, it may turn out completely wrong. This is the best photo I've found to try and see what dark furniture looks like with everything else neutral.

Carla, is this a guest or child's bedroom? If the room is on the small side maybe a padded bedhead and just a timber bedside and dresser or even french style white/grey washed furniture. Going with the classic look do you want muted bed linen and/or more modern tones for your accent pieces?

You could hang something like a vintage style brass or washed timber birdcage in front of the a/c unit maybe & bring a complementary style of lamp onto the bedside. Depends on the theme you have in mind. The dark timber will dominate but you could combine the furniture styles & an upholstered chair in a classic style to accent the bed.

I am planning on buying a new lamp, but that will come after the furniture.

Hi Carla, I did look at your idea book and got the sense of classic romantic and feminine style with muted and soft tones for the majority of the spaces. If you think about it this idea is to create another focus point and distract the eye away from the a/c unit is possible without impeding it's flow of air. This type of birdcage or even a trio of different sizes in muted pastels (they could hold candles or dare I say flowers/twigs, even jewellery?) hung to complement the chair creating a focal point. A chandelier (or tall lamp) could have a similar effect & if wired in to electricity the glow of soft lighting could distract from the a/c unit too. I would stay away from dark timber personally as it is not as soft and feminine as say this room for example.

Oh, so pretty. Either the cranberry or blue would work, if the bedroom faces west or toward the sun during the day, I would go with blue. If it faces away from the sun, use cranberry. I presume you are talking walls here.

Sorry chookchook2. I obviously don't explain myself enough!! I actually mean just a colour to put in my room. The walls are papered so they're staying the way they are. I mean something like this photo. Just what colour cushions and so forth.

Have bought a duckegg cushion to give me a bit of an idea on what that colour would look like. Also set up some cranberry / deep red cushions to see what that looks like.

Think I am leaning more toward duckegg. As you said, Louise, it is more subtle and soft.

Sophia - the bedspread is Morgan and Finch from Bed, Bath n Table. I had an issue with sizing. My bed is a single, but the single bedspread was too short on the sides, so I got the double which is too big. I have pinned the sides and am hoping to adjust the lengths. It does make the border a lot smaller which is a shame, but I would rather a bedspread that fit than a bedspread too small.

Any thoughts as to this? The cushion was much bigger than I expected but I love it anyway. Originally I was thinking of three cushions but do I need another one now?

Very nice Carla and you love it, I don't think another cushion is needed. When your bed arrives it will add dimension too.
