Flaking plaster

We had our spare bathroom renovated because we had flaking plaster on the adjacent toilet wall . We made sure it was water proofed correctly and still this problem is occurring , we recently had it checked again to see if the breacher is leaking but no its not . We've been told its still drying out from before ?? But in the meantime plaster is flaking off still , not sure who we should get to fix it , had salt damp people check it but have been told its not salt damp , the guys we had to do the bathroom are out of the equation . Any help would be appreciated r

Could be mould? as it grows it creates a little bubble of gas that pushes the plaster off?

Honestly I don't understand why we build bathrooms in Australia with so many porous materials like plaster and mdf. They cause so many problems!

It's going to be hard to mimic the trowel with out overlapping the old trowel marks it might look you fixed it but if you don't mind that you can fix it but I'm worried that it will keep happening you need to call in a plaster person to tell you why it's lost it's adhesion

I think it is called Gyrock or Sheetrock .It looks cheaply done. The ceiling that is flaking is in the the hall and kitchen but it doesn't dip like the lounge area. . Yet the bedrooms are perfect . As this was built 30 years ago it has wear and tear. I live in Australia but I love Houzz. Thank you for all the information. I believe the palms outside the lounge leaned on the guttering. The palms have been removed . Yet we haven't looked in the roof area. There isn't mould .

Hi,

it looks like sizing ( not sure if that the right spelling) It's when the taps are leaking into the internal wall. It can also wet the next adjoining room. :(

Have you had the gyprock wall tested with a moisture meter, because this really looks like a recurring moisture problem where it wicks from one location to another, and that can never be repaired really successfully. Was the wall material replaced with a proper cement backer board used for tiling purposes. It this room colder than surrounding rooms and is condensation occurring within the wall cavity? Could there be pipe work within this wall cavity that is leaking slowly. A builder with an ophthalmoscope could perform a cavity inspection, alternately a builder with a heat sensitive camera could identify possible cold areas within the wall where condensation could occur.
