Lol...you assume they are all terrible...they aren't...they're just necessary. The most difficult for me is cleaning the bathroom and doing the laundry just because of physical restrictions but in my earlier years, I actually enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment I got from doing all those "terrible" chores. Now cleaning up after the kids when they had stomach viruses and didn't make it to the bathroom in time, yeah...that was very unpleasant.

I wonder if there are any cleaning pros on here that I can contact for each and every one of those undesirables!

I don't mind anything in the way of chores- they have to be done, but my least favourite is getting rid of the mould that grows all over everything at the drop of a hat. Which stupid designer/architect thought it was a good idea to have an ensuite shower room in a bedroom with adjacent closet, in a room that is south facing, under trees, 3 feet from a neighbour's air con unit and gets no natural sunlight?

Dusting the Venetians and shutters! Oh, do I hate doing that, lol

Hahaha, I love these comments. I own a cleaning business mostly domestic clients and coming from a horsewoman background when "Housework" was a foreign language to me, that might be considered a major challenge to some. In reality cleaning anything requires only 3 steps (& no, motivation is not one of them). Firstly is preparation, secondly is choice of chemicals and the third is technique. Even if you split the house up into sections and each section on different days, you still need those three steps. Once you have a planned strategy (and no doubt this will change to plans B, C & D over time) you'll find you not only zone out while cleaning, it can become quite satisfying and even therapeutic.

I would love to be in the situation of maybe not working so hard to pay for the cleaning couple, the ironing lady, the lawn mower man, the pool man, the dog wash man, the bin cleaner, the gardener and window washer man.

When the window cleaner wants to charge $200 for doing my windows, I prefer to leave them dirty- on the outside bits I can't reach anyway. The inside is clean- except I can't get whatever the double glazing installers left on the windows off. It is streaky and horrible. Spoils the look of the new glass.

I hate cleaning the bathroom becos it's hard to get "natural" cleaners to suit our ATU system which don't have lemon or vinegar in them (cos I'm allergic to them and though I wear gloves, the smell really affects me!)

Hate ironing. So does my mother. And we are both terrible at it. My husband, children and I just look wrinkled all the time.

Chopping and scrubbing, due to old injuries. I try to avoid these tasks.

mummabwown I'm with you, I never iron. I use hangers on the line if need be, then smooth out and fold. But I also buy stuff that hardly needs ironing.

oh my gosh, every saturday, hours of ironing. I thank all that is good that we had Saturday horror movies. Note many of these staples on tv are now gone. hankerchiefs, pants, shirts, table cloth. etc. I only wear cotton on most things, will not iron sheets. hang by lightest part when dry most wrinkles are out. Also always pull on seams before drying, seems to help.

Cleaning up cat fur balls is gross...EWWW!

Dusting. I hate dusting, whether it be the venetian blinds, around the tv/electrical stuff, or moving ornaments.

according to poll most houzzers find that robot vacuums do a good job at that.

I am feeling slightly smug, in that I've just got rid of all my timber venetians, and have double glazed windows with internal venetians, that NEVER need dusting. Worth every cent of the extra expense.

I pray it never happens, but something tells me that 5 or 10 years from now, a little bug is going to get in there and drive you nuts. maybe we should do a poll on it, or are they still too new?

I hate housework...but it gets done...with the exception, these days, of the good old once a year full clean up. I know there are nooks in my house full of dust...and I can see the cobwebs but somehow...cannot get up the energy at 73 to do a big clean like that anymore...and its not something that can be done 'a bit at a time'. The problem is I hate high up dusting...and this old VJ walls and ceilings house is a real dust magnet.

I'd like to conjure up a Genie house cleaner who would totally Spring clean the lot all at once.

My old Aunt, bless her beautiful soul, also hated dusting and she lived in a 1800s old Queenslander. She was such a good housekeeper and it must have driven her nuts at 80! I am sure that our mutual artist friend Margaret Olley never dusted...too many paintings to do...recon all her paint was gritty!

Summary - I hate dusting and more I hate cleaning out the fireboxes of my two wonderful log combustion heaters, its a real challenge these days...and to think it was nothing about 20 years ago,...hey chookchook 2?!

@Louise Thatcher ..I have a couple of long haured cats that expell theit hair balls...I'm always happy that they do and don't mind cleaning up after them knowing that at least their tummies won't get blocked up and kill them because I havent groomed them well enough.

Back in the 1960's whoever had powder coated aluminium venetians was..."The Bees Knees". We were "The Bees Knees" and it was my chore, for my pocket money, to clean them. Long ago I made a mental note that should they ever go out I'd never want to see them again, and if they came in again that I'd not be fooled by the "latest trend".

To sum up...I'm of the same opinion as archimondo! What does all that cost you?

And...I envy you Fatcat! What tricks do you know rhat we don't?

nah, fatcat is just young and healthy i imagine, give her a nose hose and a good dose of arthritis, she will change her tune!

@ misshaley..Robot Vaccum? Not for my house, too many different surfaces to adapt to and I'm sure it would get its micro chip in a twist trying not to get ambushed by the cat when it went in for a recharge. If I had money to burn I'd probably buy one for the cat...he loves riding it! Sorry misshaley, I can't recommend it to you as my floor surfaces ( and the cat) are not all all friendly to one of those.

the original robots are just sweepers. New ones are sooo expensive cos they suck (literally not figuratively) but I wouldn't pay $3000 for one!!!

nor i, but i would get one at a thrift store. if for no other reason than to make my 3 cats happy, and maybe my dog. The poll on houzz said many liked it though, seems to be a matter of your style. My sis has one, my mom told me it tried to eat the shower curtain, and her tiny cat was terrified. Com se, com sa.

@havingfun...Believe me, for today's technosavvy felines its a great improvement on a toilet roll! Unfortunately my Robovac-cat taxi is defunct! My cat is in mourning and sits by it prodding it convinvced its just "playing possum". No I won't be getting a $3000 one but would, like you, buy one from a thrift shop...Yodle had such a great time. That's about all they are good for in my old house. Some of my friends hold them in enthusiastic esteem. Suppose it depends on your floors...and on whether yout cat thinks he's entitled or not!

Ahh the vaccuming and the dusting, bane of my life and lungs! If I had $3000 to spare I think that rather than a Robovac, I would consider having a retrofitted Vaccumaid. My neighbour has one, makes the dusting and vaccuming a breeze for her.

@ westaussiegirl....Beats me where the Robovacs would store all the fluff and dust off the floors....a vaccum cleaner has such a large reservoir/bag to empty. I amuse myself trying to imagine what kinds of homes would have little robots tootling around as tokens of the act of cleaning floors....just wondering...seems a bit inane...

Still, Kelly (my robot) is handy between big vaccums or for spot cleaning. It does navigate between tiles, rugs and timber with ease. But I have to empty it often- point taken, Ladyrob- where does the new robovac store all that stuff???

i do not have rugs, but a couple in winter. i usually use a broom and a swiffer, for mopping, i usually use baby wipes on the end of the swiffer.

Its always good to find a gadget that assists us to banish the dust. Think I'll always be an old fashioned girl with my different mops and broom. I can grab them quickly, the job gets done and my oversized feline is not inspired to try riding a wet mop! My latest purchase is one of those round mops with the centrifugal rinsing device in a pedal bucket...a bit archaic, but like your swiffer....it works, its quick, its practical...and one can see where the dust goes. I'd probably forget 'the Kelly' is scuttling around and succeed in breaking my neck. Guess there's no really amazing substitute to the vaccum. Havent found one yet that fills all my dust disposal requirements. I just hate housework! Maybe I could engage 'FatCat' on the basis of offering some therapy? There's another Houzzer around who is a real wizz at cleaning...maybe I should engage them both when the winter is over and the log fires closed down. Until then...I remain a frustrated dust buster with a cat mourning his taxi!

@having fun You had to say that didn't you? :( I have a fruit fly that is trapped behind the glass in my cooker's digital display, and the OCD part of me wants to tear the whole thing apart. I'll be so glad when we can replace the oven, but it is built in, so will be a big job.

but, see you knew it was the truth all along. wait a while maybe the plastic will start to melt like mine did, then it will be easy to pick the bug out. Oh you wanted to keep reading the numbers. Face it, we can't have everything, now can we? Just be happy the bug is finally gone!

westaussiegirl have you tried lavender in water to do your cleaning?

Unfortunately the oil is too strong and gives me hay fever...but I do use a drop of eucalyptus oil occasionally, and baking soda for certain tasks...Ladyrob I think your cat and taxi would have been a strong contender for a funniest home video prize!!

Cleaning the bathroom is a breeze, I have a nylon scrubber that I buy from Coles or Woolies and the cheapest shampoo I can find, after my shower I put a couple of squirts of the shampoo on the scrubber, run it from top to bottom all round my shower ( I have a large double head shower ) and over the floor then spray clean warm water from the top of the wall and let it run down the walls and glass area till the soap has gone, the shower in our 2nd bathroom doesn't have a spray so I use an empty Peters 2 litre icecream container keep filling it up with warm water and run this down the walls, hop out of the shower walk away and let it dry by itself -- once it is dry I have a perfectly streak free shower, for the bath and the vanity basins I use the same method, wipe them over with the scrubber and shampoo, flush with the warm water and leave, wipe the vanity tops, the area around the bath and window area with a damp cloth and hey presto a beautiful clean bathroom, this all takes only a few minutes and I always have a clean bathroom.

Having fun; I'm on the downhill slide to 60 and having been a horse woman I can promise you there's arthritis in these old bones.
